Skincare Saviours

I have to admit I’ve always been fairly lucky where my skin is concerned. I’ve never really had acne or massive breakouts. But recently I’ve noticed a lot more black/white heads and little bumps (can I call them that?!). So last week, while sitting in hospital (long story) I had an epiphany. My skin improved dramatically in that week stuck in hospital/home recovering and in that moment I realised I needed to strip it all back.

The biggest change I’ve probably made is my discontinuation of foundation. I still love a good foundation don’t get me wrong. But for day-to-day wear my twin sister suggested I try tinted moisturiser. After a little bit of research I thought the Nars Pure Radiant Tinted moisturiser sounded like a good shout. They have a really clear colour guide on their site so using that alone, I selected the shade St Moritz and so far so good. It’s described as the fairest of the medium shades with yellow undertones. I’m an undercover Simpson so knew anything yellow based would probably go well with my skin tone. The pigmentation is surprisingly good for a tinted mosituriser and it provides a good base for the rest of your makeup. As the name says, it is more on the glowy side which personally I love for Summer, but probably not the best if you prefer a matte finish. It also contains that all important SPF. It’s early days but I do feel like my skin feels less caked and no spots thus far. Win!

My skin is also very dry. I don’t know if it’s because Winter has really dragged this year but my skin is crying out for some moisture ( and probably some sun!). I have recently had a mini Kiehls haul and got both the Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream and Blue Herbal Cleanser Treatment. The Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream is an oldie but a goodie. I think it’s safe to say this is probably a staple in many people’s skin care routines and for good reason. It’s light weight and very hydrating. It doesn’t leave any weird residue and restores your skin’s natural moisture. The Blue Herbal Cleanser Treatment is a first time purchase and I have to admit I partly bought it because it’s a favourite of Khloe Kardashian and Kendal Jenner. This cleanser contains a host of skin friendly ingredients including cinnamon bark extract, ginger root extract and salicylic acid. If you suffer from black heads, this stuff is meant to be the one thing to get rid of them and a lot of the famous acne products contain it ( such as the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion). It’s also sold out a lot and I had to sign up for the wait list. Yes I do take this as a good sign! I have high hopes!

I also love a good toner and Cult Beauty has recently released a 500ml version of the iconic Pixie Glow Tonic. If you have never used this, you need to! It contains 5% glycolic  acid which essentially removed the top grimy layer of skin and leaves you with a fresh new glowy layer ( think of a snake shedding it’s skin! I’m sure there’s a lot more science behind it but I that’s the basic principle).

Lastly, I think were all guilty of picking at our skin and kicking ourselves when it leaves a mark. My go to product ( which I still think is amazing) is the Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate. However it’s not cheap. It will set you back £38. Then I discovered The Ordinary 100% Plant- Derived Squalane. This does exactly the same thing for my skin as the Kiehls and is only £5.50. It gradually reduces the appearance of blemishes and is so hydrating. I love slapping this on before bed.

I would love to hear from you if you have dry skin!
